Hence, my personal vision for the profession is defined by three interconnected pillars of sustainability:

This pillar is about ensuring that laboratory operations are not perpetually dependent on fragile supply chains and foreign currency:

* Shift from Import-Dependence to Local Capacity: The current reliance on imported equipment, reagents, and spares is fundamentally unsustainable due to high costs, foreign exchange volatility, and lengthy customs delays. My vision involves a concerted effort to support and incentivize the local research and production of consumables, simple equipment fabrication, and spare parts.

* Result: A more resilient profession that can operate effectively even when global supply chains are disrupted.

* Maintenance Culture (vs. Disposal Culture): Sustainability requires moving from a “dispose and replace” mentality to a robust preventative maintenance and repair culture.
